Next episode of the Lasered Glock

The LaserMax LMS-1181  came back from the company today.   Supposedly repaired and included a test fired target with ten rounds fired from 15 yards.   The target has the center dot obliterated by 9 touching holes. (1 flyer)

First off,  my Glock 36 has never shot that tight of a group at 15 yards!  Second,  I question why 10 rounds out of a gun that has a 6 round magazine?

I have to admit that it looks like they’re really trying,  but,   after assembling the gun and checking the laser against the sights,  I find it is still off about 4 inches off  at 15 FEET.   At 15 ft,  the laser dot is about 4 inches off where the sights are aimed.   I haven’t shot the gun with the repaired/realigned laser in it yet,   but I have to assume that if it’s off 4 inches at 15 feet,  it’s going to be worse at 15 yards.   I wonder what the difference is between their Glock 36,  and my Glock 36?     Another issue was, that is very hard to turn off and on,  requiring the slide to be slightly retracted to get a good switch action.   That issue wasn’t taken care of either.  Finally,  the gun is now rather difficult to  reassemble,  since the Laser guide rod,  keeps falling out while trying to put the slide back on.    So,  I guess I’ll be calling Bob at LaserMax again.   But to be fair,  I’ll wait until after I get the gun out on the range again.  Range report to follow later.

Waiting for the Laser

It’s been 10 day’s since I returned the LaserMax laser sight for my Glock. I haven’t heard anything from them yet. Other that the nearly $300 I paid for the laser product, the Glock and I are still getting along quite well. It’s night sights are still strong after nearly 10 years. I’m hoping for a good outcome with this LaserMax story, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

And on another train of thought:   I launched the SportCraft today.   Everything went well,  and once in the water,  it amazed me by starting on the first turn of the key.   I still have some fishing gear to load on the boat,   and then we’ll be ready for a shakedown run.  (Hopefully the weather co-operates)   I talked to a couple of fellow fisherman who were loading their boat,  as I was launching mine,  and they said that they did quite well,  but that it took them all day to do it.   Translation:   The Walleye are there,  but the bite was slow.

Lasered Glock 36 Range Report

More bad news on the lasering of my Glock 36.   As noted before,  it takes two hands to get the laser turned on,  but an even worse problem is,  it does not shoot anywhere near the point of aim.  (Pictures follow)

Laser is way off

The 4 holes at the bottom were fired from 21 feet,   with the gun rested on the shooting bench,  (which I believe cause it to shoot slightly low as shown).   After these shoots,  I turned the target upside down and fired 6 rounds using the laser as the sighting device.  (again resting the gun butt on the bench).   Visualize it upside down,  and you can see that the sighting is way off,  with only two of the bullets even punching the paper.   I’ve contacted Lasermax about not being to turn the darn thing on with one hand,   (and they promised to send out a  weaker spring).    Tomorrow I will be contacting them again about the inaccuracy of  it.   As it is, it is basically useless!

expensive, and cheap

In this photo,  you see the Lasermax beam on the left,  and on the right, that from a $5 laser pointer I had in my desk.   You can’t actually tell in the photo,  but the cheap one is many times brighter,  and actually quite visable in sunlight,  which the Lasermax is NOT.   It was partly sunny at the range,  and it was VERY difficult to see the laser dot.

Next are a few pictures of how the Lasermax fits in the gun.   Note,  the Lasermax is about 1 sixtenth of an inch shorter than the stock Glock slide rod,  and it fits very loosely,  to the point of falling out when the gun is disassembled,  (and I believe,  moving up/down/left and right while in the gun.

If I carefully assemble the gun,  then turn the laser on and check it against the sights,  the laser dot is about 2 inches above the point of aim at 21 feet.  But when I rack the gun a couple of times (as suggested by LaserMax)  the dot moves well left of the sights.

The above is fuzzy,  but I think you can see how the guide rod has lifted and rotated to one side.

This is the guide rod correctly installed,  before being assembled and fired.
This is how it looks after the gun has been fired and carefully disassembled.
I’m pretty anxious to talk with the manufacturer tomorrow,  as I can’t really see (as a former machinist) how this issue can be resolved easily.  With nearly $300 invested in this sight,  I’d really like to see it work properly,  or get a refund!

Glock 36 and the LaserMax LMS-1181

Well,  the internal laser came today and was installed.   I had a little trouble getting the slide stop spring back in,  but overall the install wasn’t to bad.  Unfortunately like CarteachO ,   I’ve got a bit of a problem right off.   The replacement guide rod, (with the laser built in) like CarteachO’s,   is a hair shorter than the Glock guide rod.  This causes it to be a very loose fit,  in that it pretty much falls out when the slide is removed.   I believe that being this loose allows the guide rod to get out of alignment with the barrell,  which in turns throws the aiming point off a bit.

The bigger problem is with turning the laser on.   I would expect to bring the gun up from the holster, trigger finger along the slide resting on the slidestop (which also doubles as the on/off switch.   This is fine,  except,  I can’t push the switch hard enough to turn the darn thing on.   I have to partially rack the slide, (a quarter inch or so) and simultaneously push the switch,  in which case it turns on easily.   Bad situation,  having to use two hands to get the gun into firing position.

So I called their tech support.    They said the the shortness of the replacement guide rod,  is just the way it is,  nothing can be done about it.   They offerred to realign the laser to the point of aim,  if I send it back in.    They also are sending out a new slidestop spring,  which hopefully will smooth out the on/off switch. (I’ll need to shoot it first)

Haven’t shot it with the laser installed yet,  so stay tuned for  a range report.

BAD NEWS about Google

This from Ballseyes Boomers.

I can’t say I didn’t expect something like this,  but it appears,
