A couple of reviews

I haven’t had a lot to say (publicly) for a few months now,  so today a little change up.   This morning we drove south about 30 miles to RIFENBARK ARMORY, LLC ,  to meet Scott,  and drop off my Benelli Nova.    If you’ve read back posts,  you know that this Benelli 20 gauge pump,  has been nothing but trouble since I bought it new last year.  It’s shoots good,  IF you can get it to load a shell,  rather that spit them out the bottom of the gun.

After sending it back to Benelli and waiting weeks for it to be repaired,  it came back with the same problem.     I called Benelli again,  and they said to send it in again………,     I balked at this idea and found Scott at Rifenbark Armory.   Scott is confident that there’s not a lot wrong with the gun,  it just needs a little tweakings,   “bending and duct tape” as he put’s it.

Anyway,  Scott now has the gun at his very nicely laid out shop,  and I should be hearing from him in about a week,  at which time,  I’ll complete this review.   That’s Rifenbark Armory,  LLC.  Gunsmithing and Firearms manufacturing.  989-879-3067 near Pinconning,  Michigan,  just off I-75.

On the tripp back from the Armory,  we came through Pinconning and stopped for lunch, at the Third Street Station,  (Deli, Bar, and Catering).   Third Street Station,  is a jewel of Pinconning.   The owners maintain the place as they would a well loved home.   It’s nicely detailed inside and out,  and the food is great.  I’d recommend the “Third Street Club” on Cibatta bread,  but the menu is quite large as noted on the above link.   They have a banquet room that is open to all customers when not in use,  that can hold quite a large group,  and an outside patio with a barbeque grill.    They offer  a fair selection of beers and wines,  (though,  no Guiness is on the menu)  :-(

Bottom line,   Third Street Station,  on M-13 in Pinconning, Michigan.  If your driving north and feel hungry, thirsty,  or just want to take a comfortable bread,  Third Street is the place for you.  989-879-1236

Getting ready to fish

The dock went in today,  and  I dropped the SportCraft off to be bottom coated.  Hoping for better Walleye catches this year!

The little fishing boat is now cleared to work on,  and tomorrow I should be able to  get it ready to put in the water.  If the weather holds out,  we should be river fishing in a couple of days!

Tomorrow evening is this years first shotgun shoot out at the gun club.   Any member can bring any number of shotguns and shoot a variety of clay targets.    I plan to take my two new twenty gages.   The Benelli Pump,  and the Fox double.  It should be a fun evening.

History Channel’s “Top Shots”

I’ve been watching “Top Shots” pretty regularly since it began last year.   I like the general idea of the show,   but I’m appalled by the actions and conduct of the paricipants when their off the range,  (and sometimes when they’re on the range).  We’re at the point now that the remaining military people have formed a “klick” to force the non-military people off the show,  and the’re not nice about it.  Last night was the first night that it was all military people,  and predictible,  the group turned on the odd man out,  the Navy guy.   Fortunately,  Navy, had an excellent shooting night and spoiled their plans.   As it turned out,  one of the worst behaving players,  wound up getting sent home!   I can’t imaging how uncomfortable it must have been for the last two non-military shooters to be in the house,  while the military guy’s,  belittled them and plotting against them openly.

I don’t know if these guy’s are actually that petty,   or if possibly it’s all scripted.   If it’s scripted,  shame on the History Channel for bringing Beverly Hills Housewives,  and Jerry Springer into the shooting sports.   If it’s not scripted,,,,,,,,,,,,,.

Closing Hunting in Huron-Manistee National Forest

The USDA Forest Service is taking comments on whether are not they should kowtow to environmentalist and anti-hunting groups, to ban hunting in the Huron-Mansitee National Forest in Northern Michigan

This has been hunting land since way before the Forest Service existed.   You can send your comments to :

comments-eastern-huron-manistee@fs.fed.us

and in the subject line of your email,  put:  ” Forest Plan SEIS”  .    Comments will be accepted until Feb. 11, 2011.

UPDATE:  It turns out that this whole idea is the brain child of a spoiled lawyer,  and the Sierra Club.

P.S.  When I woke up this morning it was minus 9 below zero,  can we get a little Global warming here?

Silly me

After reading about Joe Huffman’s attempt to reason with Joan Peterson (Brady Campaign board member and anti-gun bigot) on her most recent blog post,  I had the loafty notion that I might also be able to bring  some small station of reality to her life.  Silly me!

I simply told her that yes, we disagree,  but my opinion is backed up by the Bill of Rights (specifically, The Second Amendment).

Her response,

“Why does the Bill of Rights support you any more than it supports me grey beard?”

Sometimes you just have to try.   Since the way I read it,  it says “Shall Not Be Infringed”,  and the U.S. Supreme Court agree’s that it say’s “Shall Not Be Infringed,   I am fairly confident that the Bill of Rights does support me more than it does Joan.   The First amendment gives us both the right to voice our opinions,  Joan 1 , GreyBeard 1 .   The Second Amendment give all sane and law abiding citizens of the U.S.  the right to BEAR firearms.

GreyBeard 2,  Joan 1 .     Sorry Joan,  but going into the explanation of why the founding father’s  wrote the documents they wrote,  is a little beyond the time requirements I’m willing to put into this blog.

UPDATE:   Typical “reaoned discourse”  from a typical anti-gunner,   even though I’ve been very polite,  I’ve been blocked from further comments on Joan’s blog.   :-)
