Just heard on the news, waterfronters in Linwood are being advised to leave their homes, tonights strong winds are pushing Bay ice inland at the rate of 20 feet per half hour.
After returning from a trip south, we were recovering by sitting with a cup of coffee and gazing out at the river.
And who shows up, but these two great little mousers! (Red Fox) I was actually using my longest digital zoom to get the picture of the one standing on the sea wall across the river, but after looking at the picture, I noticed the other head, just behind the pile of dirt to the rear of the standing fox. After watching a bit more, I believe they may have a day nest, under the boughs of a big pine tree just to the right of the photo. As we were eating our lunch, we watched this guy jumping around in the snow, chasing a mouse. (successfully). It looked very much like he was playing with it , just like a cat would. I hope they stay fat and healthy on their mousy meals!
We have good ice and there’s about 6 inches of snow on the ground.
Jan. 9th through 15th:
Seven Day Average Temperature: Hi = 22 degrees Low = 4.5 degrees
Highest 7 day Temp: 27 degrees Lowest 7 day Temp: -6 degrees
Average temperature for the past six days: Hi = 27 degrees
Jan 1st thru 6th Lo = 11.8 degrees
With one Sunny Day out of the six.
There’s light snow cover on the ground, maybe 1.5 inches. The ice on the river is now pretty much safe for snowmobiles, fishermen, and general light rowdiness. There are also a few fishing shanty’s out about 3/4 mile off of Point AuGres, in Saginaw Bay. It looks like there might still be a little open water way out in our part of the Bay, and for sure, in the outerbay (Whitestone Point and above). But there’s plenty of shore ice for fishing, all along the shoreline. (Just be careful) No word on who’s catching what, I’m not allowed out there this year. (Doc’s orders)
P.S. Jack at JLV LURES, has a great sale on trolling, casting lures for this summer!
