It’s looking like the Walleye -have- moved to parts elsewhere.  We did a 4 hour tour today,  and though we saw lot’s of bait fish on the Fishfinder,  not a Walleye showed up for the party.     It’s looking like the next trip will be to the south a bit.

Point LookOut mini report

I’ve been hosting a couple of young grandkids over the past few days and the wind has been up a bit,  so no “real time” fishing report.  But,  from what I’ve heard “over the fence”,  the Walleye are still out there.   Hope to make a run soon.

I took a bit of the downtime to pull the SportCraft out of the water.   There was a loose mounting bolt on the anchor pulpit that needed fixing,  and it needed a good bottom washing.   (I was starting to notice a decrease in cruising speed,  and the fish finder was acting up).  I replaced all the pulpit bolts with the next size larger and washed the bottom with muratic acid (and the powerwasher).   The muratic,  did a pretty fair job,  but not quite as good as the Mary Kate’s “On and Off”,  that I used last fall.

At any rate,  the bottom is now pretty clean again,  and the fishfinder’s transducer is spotless.   If the problems with the FF continue,  I suppose it will be time for a replacement.   Color or Black and White??

Camping in Mio

We just returned from an extended family camping trip to Mio’s Oscoda County Park,  located just above the Mio Dam, on the AuSable River.  I believe it was the first time we’ve ever camped more than one day,  without getting hit by a nasty thunderstorm.   We had cool sunny day’s and cold nights all the while,  excepting one night of light rain.   Some fish were caught,  some beer and wine were drank,  good food was prepared and eaten,  and Roxie, (my little German Shorthair) got to run her legs nearly off on a daily basis.   A good time was had by all.

Where’s your Mamma??

Bamby

When I walked out the driveway this afternoon to pick up the mail,  I noticed this little guy, standing behind a tree in the grass beside my driveway.  I pretended not to notice and went on my way to pick up the mail,  but took the long way around back to the house and picked up the camera.   When I walked back out,  he was laying down,  and I took this photo,  from about 10 ft away.  He didn’t seem real scared of me,  nor inclined to move on.  You can’t really tell by the photo,  but I’d put him at about 7 to 12 pounds,  very young.

I’m thinking that his mom,  left him here with intructions to stay hidden,  while she took care of some errands.  At least for his sake,  I hope she’s coming back.  I thought I saw something low and dark, (and definately not a deer) moving in the shadows of the Cedar swamp behind him,  so I moved back a ways,  limbered up my Glock,  and stood watch for a while.  If there was something there,  it was very cautious and after a half hour of so, I wandered back to the house.

DNS problems at Charter

If Charter Communications is your internet provider,  you may be missing about half of the Internet.  It seems they’re having a problem with one of their DNS servers,  and for sure,  it was the one that serves my area.  A  switch over to a manual DNS server temporarily cured the problem,  but my home network is now down.  I didn’t feel like reprogramming my router,  so I plugged the ‘puter directly into the Charter modem.  Hopefully they’ll get the DNS fixed in a day or so.

Here’s a few that might work if you need them;
