Getting ready to fish

The dock went in today,  and  I dropped the SportCraft off to be bottom coated.  Hoping for better Walleye catches this year!

The little fishing boat is now cleared to work on,  and tomorrow I should be able to  get it ready to put in the water.  If the weather holds out,  we should be river fishing in a couple of days!

Tomorrow evening is this years first shotgun shoot out at the gun club.   Any member can bring any number of shotguns and shoot a variety of clay targets.    I plan to take my two new twenty gages.   The Benelli Pump,  and the Fox double.  It should be a fun evening.

Mini Fishing report

The river AuGres  has settled down a bit now,  and even cleared up a bit.  Today we watched a couple of boats trolling up river (against the current),  and saw them take a number of nice Walleye.    Guess I’m going to have to get with the program and get a boat in the water!!

Flooding: Mini Report

Well,  I hear the Rifle river is 3.5 feet over flood stage,  but I haven’t been down that way to see it.    The Au Gres River is, in my humble opinion,  about 18 inches below flood stage.  That meaning,  if the river comes up 18 inches more,  it will flood the City Campground.   That doesn’t mean that it hasn’t flooded out into the farm fields up river,   I’m fairly sure it has.

The current,  measured by driving along side the river in my car is between 7 and 9 miles per hour.    There’s a lot of boiling currents,  log’s and debris,  coming down river.

Saginaw Bay,,, is ugly.   Massive clouds of coffee with creme colored water.  The only places the water isn’t very very muddy,  are the small bays along the shoreline,  that don’t have rivers or creeks running into them.  And the wind is whipping up some nasty brown waves.

On shore,  EVERYTHING is wet.  Just about every yard in town is now a small lake.   There’s actually a new 18 acre lake right next to my house,  with depths nearing 3 feet.

And still,  the water levels in Saginaw Bay continue to fall???????????????????????????

Au Gres River, Mini Fishing report

We got home from downstate this afternoon,  and it was so nice out, I decided to try a little river fishing.  The current is still strong,  and it’s still pretty muddy.   I guess that’s got something to do with the fact that I got zero bites in about an hour and a half.  :-(   I also noted that no-one was fishing in Omer on the Rifle River .

April 18th and winter is back

It’s Cold!,  it was a cold and windy weekend,  and it’s a cold breezy Monday.  I hear that down state,  they got a couple of inches of snow last night.    Up here it was just a few little sputter’s, but it was easily cold enough.

I’m considering bundling up and spread crab-grass killer on the lawn.  The grass has turned fairly green,  and I understand that the way crab-grass killer works, it to keep the young crabgrass shoots from developing.   I also needs to get the insecticide product on the ground,  to  head of the Emerald Ash borers  and scale on the tree’s.   That involves mixing 5 gallon pails of mix and pouring one around each of our many Ash tree’s.   It has to be done while the sap is running good,  and I think it’s about that time.   IT’s JUST COLD OUT THERE!

Hoping for a slight bit of Glob–, errr,  I mean Local warming
