Government gift card, Digital TV

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Hah,  I used my government issued digital tv card to by a digital TV converter today at Walmart.  Guess What?  I get the same number of channels over digital (0ver the air) TV, as I get on Analog (over the air) TV.   ZERO!

Oh well,  I guess I’ll alway’s have the thing,  should someone ever decide to put in a broadcasting station we can receive.

The U.N. and America’s Interests

Friday, May 9th, 2008

From, IMPRIMUS,   John Bolton,  on the United Nations as opposed to American intersts.

“”Norming”", is the idea that the U.S. should base its decisions on some kind of international consensus, rather than making its own decisions as a constitutional democracy”

“The problem with the United States is its devotion to its Constitution over international norms”

“International Norms,  pushing for prohibition of ALL private firearms ownership”

“The U.S. pays 22 percent of the cost of U.N. agencies,  and 27 percent of peace keeping costs”

“The U.S. should pay for what it wants,  and insist that it get’s what it pays for”

“Senator Kerry,  stated that American policy should meet some kind of International Test”

If all these quotes from Mr. Bolton’s speech,  fired you up a bit,  go to the IMPRIMUS website and read the whole speech.

And finally a quote from my April 23rd post:

“ARE WE THAT STUPID?”

First run in the Bay

Monday, May 5th, 2008

We took the 17 footer out after Walleye yesterday.  It was kind of windy,  but the waves weren’t overpowering.  We did some trolling,  and some drift fishing.  Unfortunatley,  the fish didn’t seem to be there.  In nearly 4 hours I didn’t mark a fish with the fish finder.

We trolled the river out, (and back in),  and we trolled about a mile into the wind (and maybe a mile out),  then drifted back to the mouth of the river pulling crawler harnesses.  The 17ft boat and old 40 horse Merc.  were really peckin’ em off,   we easily averaged 1.8 mph to 2 mph while trolling,  and about 1.2mph drifting.  The new JLV Lures were running great while trolling,  they looked beautiful in the water.   We ran  JLV  Bladed Shad and Little Shad on my side of the boat,  and tried Hot-n-Tot’s and Reef Runners on the other side.  While drifting, the boy’s used crawler rig’s tipped with nice fat crawlers,  and I tried pulling a bright yellow Firetiger, Luhr Jensen Rock Walker,  which actually ran very well at the speed we were drifting , with the wave action adding to the motion.

It’s to bad we couldn’t locate any fish,  :-( ,   ’cause I think we were presenting them with a really nice gourmet lunch.

The 17 footer is a whole different ballgame out there in the Bay,  than the Sea Ray.  We got quite a bit of spray when ever we headed into the waves,  and there was a lot more boat motion while drifting. (on the postitive side,  we also had a lot better speed while drifting)   I’m thinking that 2 footer’s are about my limit in the smaller boat.  In the next few day’s I should have the Sea Ray in the water,  and we’ll start figuring out those planer boards boards.  Hopefully the fish will co-operate.

River and Pt. Lookout mini report

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

It was overcast and windy today,  with a hard rain moving through about 5pm.  Not a good day for fishing.  I did get a chance to try out the new JLV LURES Bladed Shad though.

jbl.jpg   Note the attached (removable) spinner blade at the front end and the jeweled eye’s.    This lure floats at rest,  but dives quickly when pulled.  It casts very well,  and will dive up to 14 ft on  cast retrieve,  but it’s depth is very controllable by slowing and/or stopping the retrieve.  I’m told that when trolling,  it will dive up to 20 feet.  (Can’t wait to test it)  At 2.95 this one should be hot!

NOTE: JLV RAPTOR Minnows are on sale for 1.99 (good time to stock up)

The local fishing reports say the Walleye are slow because of the weather,   (Wind and more Wind).   But I’ve heard that folks are catching some out in 6 to 12 feet of water.  I’ve got a little work to do on the Alaskan,  and a little more to do on the SeaRay,  but other than that, I’m ready to get out there as soon as the weather cooperates.

As far as River bank fishing goes,  a crawler , minnow combination, on a perch rig,  will get an occasional bite,  but plugs, spoons, and leadheads,  seem to be pretty useless.

Confusion?

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Yesterday I read that Pres. Bush is pushing to step up the production of Ethanol,  yet today,  I read that the majority of scientists are recommending moving away from the idea producing fuel from food products.  (It’s been proven many times that producing ethanol from corn,  is way worse for the environment,  than using fossil fuels).  I don’t understand why our government policy makers,  can’t use a little common sense,  coupled with a respectable amount of research,  to build policies and laws that make sense?????

And on the subject of common sense and research,,   When it comes to Constitutional laws,  how hard is it to research your proposed law,  before bringing it up for a vote?  (Of course,  that would assume you give a crap about the Constitution,  when you’re proposing your new law).

I could go on,  and on,  but I’m not on high blood pressure med’s yet,  and don’t really care to be put on them.
