Greybeards Gripes

Merry Christmas to us!!  I’ve reserved two nights at “The Inn” at “Chateau Grand Traverse” for the Mrs. and myself.  We’re both looking forward to seeing old friends at the Vineyards of  Old Mission and Leelanau Peninsula.  I’ve always thought that Michigan  wineries produce some the best wines in the world.

I’m just hoping that the weather doesn’t treat us to harshly.  (6 to 8 inches of snow last night.)  It’s been a few years since our last overnight trip up that way,  but in the past,  we’ve had occasion to tackle some interest back roads  during snow season. 

If you click on the (Michigan) link above,  you’ll see links to the web sites of some of the Vineyards we’ll be visiting.  How many we visit will depend on the weather and time constraints,  but,  Boskydel,  Leelanau Cellars, Raftshol, Chateau Chantel, Long View and Bowers Harbor,  are must stops for us.  It will be a nice period of downtime,  with the only stress being,  trying not to buy to much wine.

It’s cold,  we’ve got about 7 to 8 inches of snow on the ground, with more forcast in the coming days.  The ice on the river is thick enough for snowmobile traffic, but I haven’t seen anyone ice fishing yet.  (I did hear that there are Perch biting).  Heck,  the Rifle (river) is frozen over too!  Still open water out on the Bay and out in Huron,  but there are lot’s of ice flows blowing around.

There are three newly scoped rifles in my gun safe,  just waitng for the weather to ease up a bit, so I can sight them in.  The Bushnell 3-9x went from the DPMS to my Ruger 30-06,  and the 4x Weaver went from the M-77 Ruger,  to one of my other Ruger’s,  a 10-22.  The lucky DPMS,  is the recipient of a brand new Simmons AETEC 2.8-10x Pro-Hunter.   The future should bring  a few range reports.

Been pretty busy around here,  Doc appointments, and new glasses tomorrow, (plus an EASC  meeting tomorrow night).  Coupled with Christmas shopping, (NOTE: I didn’t say “Holiday” shopping),  and helping out with food prep for our early Christmas family get together.
