Fishing tournament and Car Cruise tomorrow

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Tomorrow brings another Walleye tournament starting out of the AuGres River,  plus,  at 5 PM the yearly car cruise is taking place.  (you can definately tell there are hot rods in town,  just by stepping outside and listening)

The plan is to skip the tournament,  but get in some fishing early tomorrow morning,  then come in for a late lunch and watch the car cruise.  That is unless we’re to busy cleaning and eating fish.  ;-)

A sea (or Bay that is) of glass

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

The Bay was almost like glass today,  and if it hadn’t been for boat traffic,  I expect it would have been.

We hammered away at the Walleye again,  using every trick (or lie, what ever) that anyone has suggested.  About six hours worth got us two keepers,  a 17 incher and 18 incher. Oh, yeah,  and we threw back another Sheepshead.  Getting closer to that fish fry.  :-)

P.S. The Sheepshead and smaller Walleye were caught using a 2 ounce inline sinker followed by a crawler rig, in about 40 feet of water.  The larger Walleye fell for a 2 ounce bottom bouncer, trailing a crawler rig, in about 36 feet of water.  As usually,  we marked a lot of fish,  just couldn’t get them to bite.

Bradley Bar

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Well,  we took the 17ft Alaskan out in the calm water’s of the Bay last week,  for a quick run over to NorthPort Marina,  just to look it over.

Unknown to us,  about halfway across from the Augres River bouy’s to the NorthPort bouy’s lies Bradley Bar.  We were cruising along about 25 mph, in 12 feet of water,  when the old Merc picked up a nasty rock.  (the water quickly went from 12 feet to 1 ft when we crossed the bar).

I hope I don’t find to many more unmarked obstuctions out there.   This one cost me about $150.  At least now I know to avoid Bradley Bar when going from the Augres River to Northport Marina.

We tested out the NEW PROP on the Alaskan today and it seems to work fine with the rig we have.  I also installed an electric trolling motor on it,  so we’re ready for what ever’s biting in shallow water.  Still working on that deep water thing,,,,  they say the Walleye are slowing down,  but still out there if you can find them.  I just might fill up the SeaRay and give it another try tomorrow.

Road Trip

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

If you’re ever near Oscoda (Michigan) I can greatly recommend Wiltse’s Brew Pub.    Great atmosphere, good food and good micro-brewery beer.

We took a road trip up that way today, and sat out a dandy rain storm while overlooking the harbor at Harrisville.

Speaking of Harrisville,  their annual Sunrise Side Wine Festival is happening this weekend.  Alway’s a pretty good time,  and you even get to see the only traffic light in Alcona county.
