New TV??

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

We’re in the “consideration” stage of a new TV set.  We’re watching the prices and waiting for some kind of decent sale.  Problem:  I really don’t know enough about the new sets to make  a good decision.   I’m currently leaning toward a Samsung HL-S 5086 50″ DLP set,, priced at $1159 at Amazon.com.  It’s a 50 inch DLP machine,  with the 1280×720 resolution.  HELP!  A search for “Samsung HL-S5086W 50″ DLP HDTV “  at Amazon.com will get you all the details.

We don’t get HDTV over the air broadcast,  and our Satelitte signal isn’t in HDTV either.  So most of the high def. viewing would be DVD’s.  I’d also like to be able to dump my computer screen to the big screen,  so I could use it to watch some of the Internet broadcasts.  This Samsung, does have the “PC: 1 D-Sub-15 input”  so I’m guessing it would work.

Your input will be greatly appreciated.  :-)

Heroes or 24 ? again

Monday, January 29th, 2007

Well the Heroes VS 24 dilemma is solved.  Which ever one I decide to watch on the BoobTube tonight,  I can watch the other,  without commercial interuption, tomorrow night on the computer.  :-)  A quick search for the show’s home page, then click on past episodes,  and away we go.  I even get good quality over my slow DSL connection.  (a tribute to CISCO’s technology).

Which Sci-Fi writer would I be?

Sunday, January 28th, 2007
I am:

Robert A. Heinlein

Beginning with technological action stories and progressing to epics with religious overtones, this take-no-prisoners writer racked up some huge sales numbers.

Which science fiction writer are you?

Refer back to Jan. 22

On the 22nd I was complaining about not being able to watch both Heroes and 24.  The “better half” voted for Heroes,  so that’s what we watched.  I felt a bit left out not seeing 24,  but last night that issue was resolved.

We watched the entire episode at this website;

The other issue,  Fishing Hurts, still galls me.  I’m not a big fisherman,  but,  anyone who tries to ban fishing quickly goes to near the top of my shitlist!

NOTE: “Fishing Hurts” is a project of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), who are also known as “murderers of puppies and kittens“.

I see ”Fishing Hurts” as being very closely related to the move by Californica Senators Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstien, to override a provision of the 2007 Defense Authorization Act.  A provision that protects the lives of hundreds of Mule Deer and Elk, living on Californica’s Santa Rosa Island.  Boxer and Fienstien, seek to have these healthy animals EXTERMINATED by the year 2011.  (Not hunted,  most likely they would be rounded up and poisoned!)

Yeah,  if Barb and Di get their way,  we’ll outlaw guns,  hunting, and fishing,  then find really neat and tidy way’s to murder the animal population as a method of wildlife management.

Plugged

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

If you were watching a movie last night (like me) rather than watch Pres. Bush give his State of the Union Address,  you can get it in it’s entirety at Plugged , along with the dumocratic response,  all in searchable format.  Neat!

Beowulf and Grendal: review

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Referring back to my Jan. 14th post about “Beowulf and Grendal”.

Last night I watched it:  My rating will have to be a compilation of the actual movie,  and the effort that the crew and actors put into making the movie.   The scenery was awesome.  The crew must have went through a herculian effort to complete this film under those conditions.

The story line follows the ancient story fairly closely and tries to give a fairly accurate representation of life in those times.  It was a bit dark at times,  and sometimes just a tad hard to follow,  but overall it was pretty entertaining and even carries a moral message.  All in all,  “Beowulf & Grendal” starring Gerard Butler,  get’s 4 out of 5 stars.
