AuGres River mini-report

Monday, July 21st, 2008

The weather’s been pretty threatening for the past few day,  so we’ve been doing some river fishing.  A few Catfish,  a couple small Pike,  and one lone 17 in. Walleye.

There’s alway’s something out there just itchin’ to steal the bait off your hook,,  and I’d estimate we’re hooking about 1 fish, per 5 worms/crawlers.  It’s just a bit frustrating,  and I’ve tried a lot of inovative ways of hooking the worms,  but to no avail.   They can often clean off the hook,  without the slightest jiggle to the line.  :-(

Walleye skunked again

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

I don’t know what’s wrong with our Walleye fishing.  Another day,  with not one in the boat.   There is a bright side though,  about half way through the day,  the better half,  landed a 33 inch Sheepshead,  (Drum).  This was near the  biggest fish I’ve ever handled.  I wish we had taken the camera,  and maybe a scale,  but,,,,,,,.

Later, after docking the boat,  I dropped a line in the water and immediately snagged a nice 17 inch Sheepshead.  At least we weren’t skunked.   I just wish we could locate the Walleye,  (which seem to be wildly jumping into everyone elses boat).

P.S.  Upon checking the Michigan Fishing Guide,  I learned that the Sheepshead the wife caught,  would have qualified her for  a Master Angler Award,  and possibly have been a state record.  (scale and camera go with us from now on)

A good day on the Bay

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

It was a little to Sunny and calm for the Walleye to be really hungry,  but we did manage to pull in 2.  A 16 incher and a 24 incher.  What a difference when they were placed side by side.  You’d have sworn that the 16 incher was illegal.  (limit size 15 inches).

We pulled Hot-n-Tots,  Double Downers, JLV Bladed Shad, JLV Fatty Shad, Reef Runners,  RockWalkers,  and a few other trolling baits,  plus the good ol’ crawler harnesses and a couple of different spoons.  A chartruse firetiger bladed 2 hooked crawler harness, on a 3 oz bottom bouncer,   brought in both , from directly behind the boat in 31 feet of water.  Both on the same rod,  with 15 minutes of each other.  Otherwise the 5 hr trip was a bust.   We never got a bite on the planer boards.  We logged about 14 miles round trip,  maybe 6 or 7 of trolling.

I suppose it could have gone a lot better,  but it was still a good day.

Big one for the day

Walleye plans for tomorrow?

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

It’s a bit on the windy side today,  with a lot of sun, but threatening thunderstorms.  Tomorrow sounds like  a better day.  We’re planning on it anyway.

Reading the fishing report for Saginaw Bay over at Lake-Link ,  charter Captain Mike Veine , say’s they’re biting like crazy.  Two charter’s a day,  10 keeper’s per hour!!   Captain Veine,  often takes his boat out,  right past our dock!  Being  -0- for 2 , maybe I should follow him :-) .

Anyway,  we’re prepped and ready if the weather co-operates.

Skunked!

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

We braved the threatening Thunderstorms and put in about 5 hours on the Bay yesterday.

Trolling plugs and crawler harnesses.   Typical for my luck when it comes to fishing,  we didn’t land a fish.   I could hear others on the radio,  talking about landing fish,  but we just couldn’t seem to find a school.  The storms threatened all day,  but never actually got started.  Oh well, I guess it was a nice day on the water.

Still on the fence on the new boat idea

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

That SportCraft is still sitting on the lot, and I’m still sitting on the fence.   I’m still thinking that it seems like an awful lot of money to invest in something that I may never get full use out of.   Now,  if someone were to come along wanting to buy my SeaRay,  then, I might be able to convince myself,  but the idea of getting stuck with both of them,  kinda sours my stomach.

With the Big “0″ nearly as good as nomintated for the Dem. Presidential candidate,  and Hildy rattling about being his Vice-Pres. candidate.  (Now that would be a scary situation for Obama!)  I’m just not to sure about anything,  I’m thinking maybe I should hold onto what I have and prepare for the worst.  Did you know that Obie, supports a U.N. sponsored “World Income Tax”  and also liked the idea of the U.N. sponsored “World Private Gun Ban”. (guess he forgot all about our “BILL OF RIGHTS”).

Nope,  I just don’t think this is a good time to be making a major purchase.  :-(
