Liquid Refreshment

Before the weather started turning cold,  I started sampling some micro-brews from the small meat/grocery store uptown.  They have a deal where you can build your own six pack,  from a huge collection of microbrews.   A few that I liked.

1. Clipper City Brewing,  Heavy Seas,  “Loose Cannon”   2.  Heavy Seas again,  “Small Craft Warning”  3.  Red Hook,  “Long Hammer IPA”  4.  Short’s Brew, “Huma Lupa Licious”  5.  Big Sky Brewing, “Montana Trout Slayer” and 6.  Point’s “Oktoberfest”.     Some of the above are a bit like I remember Bell’s,  “Two Hearted Ale”.   I have to remember Two Hearted,  cause I haven’t had it for a while.   (I’ll likely remedy that soon)

I have to qualify these “likes”,  with:   Sometimes a beer that comes off as very good on the first bottle,  get progressively less appealing on the second and third, etc, etc.  I believe that’s what happened with the Bell’s Two Hearted Ale a year or so back.   Bought a six pack and drank three at a sitting.   Like I said,  it’s been I while since I’ve bought it again.  Some beers just don’t lend themselves to heavy comsumption.

And speaking of liquid refreshments and cold weather,  I recently opened a bottle of 12 year old Tullamore Dew.  (I was greatly impressed)   So impressed was I,  and curious,  that yesterday I went out and bought another bottle,  this one NOT marked 12 years old.   I can say without a doubt that 12 years makes a huge difference in Irish Whiskey.   And here is a bit about the difference between Scotch  Whisky and Irish Whiskey.

Bottom line:   The “young” bottle of “Dew” will sit on the desk as “medicinal whiskey” replacing an empty bottle of “Cutty Sark”.  The 12 year Dew,  will sit on the back shelf,   beside the Glenfiddich 15 yr
