Doc says…

No ice fishing, no snowmobiling, no winter hikes,  no snow shovelling, etc.,  Nothing that requires effort if the outside temperature is below 35 degrees.   I mentioned that this kind of limits my possibilites, considering that we live in northern Michigan,  but to no avail.  It’s gonna be another long winter.   I may be beginning to understand why so many people in Michigan are snowbirds.  How far south does one have to go to ensure above 35 degree temperatures?

state of the river, (AuGres) report

Here we are at November 19th.  The high so far this month has been 64 degrees,  with a high of 54yesterday.  Today is overcast and rainy, topping out at about 52 degrees.   There are still a few Perch biting in the river,  and the locals are expecting a few Walleye soon.    Hopefully the weather stays stable,  and a few more Walleye will make it into our frying pan.   The Doc says,  “No more ice fishing for me”.

Christmas shopping online :-(

I hope you’ve started your Christmas shopping.   We’ve been trying to get ours done online, (with very little luck).   It seems that many of the major web sites we’ve encountered -Don’t Work!- ,  and many of the working sites are charging ridiculous shipping charges.  Kudos to Amazon.com for their free standard shipping.  (though only certain items are covered)   Sears seems to be offering free unlimited shipping for $19.99 .  (but of course the web site doesn’t work very well)  I haven’t looked into that yet,  but it does sound a lot better than Walmart,  which was going to charge $64 for one small package to Alaska.

Fishin’ with a cold

Fish Fry!

My cold has pretty much moved to parts other,  except a lingering deep cough.   I’m feeling well enough to have gotten out on the river yesterday. (a nice calm, sunny day, topping out at 63 degrees)  We spent much of the afternoon,  waiting for Perch.   There -are- Perch in the AuGres river right now.    They tend to be small and rather far between,  but,  Perch can be caught there.  We’ll likely combine our small bag of Perch fillets with a larger bag of Walleye fillets,  and have a fish fry soon.  :-)

Oh,  and I found this tidbit a moment ago,
