A morning run on Thursday morning, brought us nothing, not even a missed hit. The sun was shining and the waves and wind were low. That afternoon, the itch got me to hit the water again and around 7:30 pm we headed out. The wind had picked up just a bit, and there was just a hint of chop starting on the Bay. We shot straight out of the river to 30 ft, rigged 4 crawler harnesses, then trolled back to about 24 ft, on a NW tack. This brought us one nice size Walleye, (about 24 to 25 inches). I then lined up with the 24 to 28ft break and trolled along the edge, back toward the river. This run brought us two more, a 26 incher, and a 17 incher. Never at any time did we mark fish on the fishfinder?
By the time we finished the run, the sun looked like it was setting into the river mouth, which made getting back to the river, a GPS only operation. Once back into the river, the sun had mostly set, and we had a really pretty ride upriver to the house.
I didn’t have a camera handy, but borrowed this photo to illustrate the river entrance. Visualize the mouth of the river, right were the sun meets the water.
