It’s looking like the Walleye have pulled out of the river. We’ve made two serious trolling runs (two different days), this week, with no hits. One little Pike was the only thing we found in the river proper. The wind has been nasty! The weather has warmed a bit, but no let off from the wind. Wave reports on the Bay have been 3 to 5, sometimes up to 5 to 7 feet. Sometimes there are short periods when it calms a bit, but they don’t last long.
Last Saturday brought a couple of nice sized Bass off of the seawall, but it took a lot of fishing to convince them to bite.
On other subjects: My friend Jack up at Whitestone Trading post, has turned in his Federal Firearms license. Jack has been there for years, and is getting well up in age. His reason for dropping the license, was harassment by the authorities. In my opinion, this is a sad state of affairs! WhiteStone Trading post is just a small store, vending fishing gear, and repairs, (and he used to handle a couple of hunting guns, some ammo, and do gun cleanups and small repairs). He usually doesn’t have the latest and greatest gear, and he surely doesn’t qualify as a terrorist! It’s just sad that our government is willing to target elder people like Jack, an old fellow just waiting out his day’s, trying to make the most of his interaction with local fishermen and hunters.
If you make it up past Au Gres going toward Tawas City on US-23, a bit before the “Singing Bridge”, at 763 N. Huron, sit’s WhiteStone Trading Post. A small white store on the west side of the road . If the sign say’s “Open”, maybe you’d get a bit of enjoyment by stopping in and saying Hi to Jack. You might even find an old fishing lure you just have to have, but you won’t find any old guns.
