If (looking closely) you may think these two lures are similar. You’d be wrong. The topmost is a JLV Fatty Shad, and the bottom is a prototype of the JLV Fatty Shad II. I to was fooled until I tried the FSII in the water. The Fatty Shad, has a nice wiggle, a good rattle, and runs 7 to 12 ft deep while casting/trolling. The new Fatty Shad II, is a little heavier, has a much different sounding rattle, and has it’s weight distributed very differently. (This particular beta, also lacks paint and eye treatments). I couldn’t get a good idea of it’s running depth in the river, the water wasn’t deep enough. My best guess, allowing for the quickness of it’s dive and the slightness of it’s bouyancy would be 15 to 20 feet. Once I get a better chance to test it, I’ll have better info. If your interested, the Fatty Shads are on sale, and the Fatty Shad II’s should be out soon, at www.jlvlures.com .
And on the subject of fishing, it was very cold here today, but, there are definately Suckers in the river.
And, this is a photo, of my new and future fishin’ pardner.
