Today started out fairly cool, and calm. Even at noon, it was only around 75 degree’s, sunny and calm. Sometime after noon, the wind popped up, and with almost no warning, the Bay and Southeastern Huron became dangerous. I was out working on one of the boats, (at the dock) and the wind was blowing hard enough against the boats, to make the dock sway. The neighbors across the river came in their big Searay, and warned me not to go out. (I wasn’t planning on it) We turned on the “ship to shores” and heard a rescue in progress. It seems that a 21 footer was capsized and the occupants were in the water (fortunately with life jackets). The coast guard had taken the emergency call and were on their way, also a nearby boat was offering assistance.
Once the radio’s quieted down, we lost the story, but we did hear multple siren’s blowing for the next hour or so. I hope everyone got in Ok.
It just goes without telling, things can change fast on the big water.
Fireworks tomorrow night here at AuGres, I hope the weather allows us to watch from the boat.
Later,

Well at least we looked like we were fishing? At the very least I’ve determined that flooding the engine compartment didn’t ruin the starter on the boat.
We tried 32 ft of water, 36 ft of water, 38 ft of water, even out to the shipping channel in 40 ft of water. Then we came back in and tried again in 12 ft, 16ft, and 20ft. About 4 hours worth of bottom bouncing brought us not even one good bite! I suppose I’m going to have to get one of the old hands up here, to show me how to catch these Bay Walleye. (It seems that everyone else is limiting out!!!!)
We did get a good look at a nice 2 masted schooner, on it’s way down toward Bay City though. Tomorrow they’re talking about heat and maybe storms, so the fishing might go on hold for a couple of days.

I suppose it’s because we’re in the middle of our short Michigan summer, but I’m just not in the house enough to get a blog post out very often.
I do have a couple of simmering comments though,
1: My two GM built trucks, the Silverado with 23,000 miles, and the Sonoma with 55,000 miles, are starting to nickel and dime me. I believe this is due to the new corporate policy, of building machinery with planned life spans. (short life spans at that!) We have stupid breakdown like these:
2: My normally trusted boat mechanic, for some reason saw the need to install the drain plug in my SeaRay, when I had it readied for pickup. I took me about a week to get around to putting it in the water, (it rained a couple of times),,, so, I get about 24 inches of water trapped in the bilge of the boat. WHO STORES A BOAT ON LAND, WITH THE DRAIN PLUG IN PLACE??? Mr. boat guy and I are going to have a little discussion about that one!
3: State of Politic’s in the US of A. It’s starting to look like we’re in DEEP DOO DOO. There doesn’t appear to be even one candidate , that would make a better President than Bozo the clown!!!
Ok, the sun’s out, and it’s warming up, looks like another nice sunny day, (we really need some rain), blogging time is over. Hang in there, join the NRA, keep an eye on your neighbor and your so called public servants!!

Slow posting of late, besides being very busy, I’ve just returned from a short vacation. No TV, No Radio, No Internet, and not even a newspaper.
Now it’s time to get down to business. I hear the Walleye are still biting good out in the deeper water, so getting the ol’ Searay wet is a strong priority. (there’s also finishing our garage painting project, but fishing sounds like more fun)
One of the first things I heard on the Boob tube, after I returned from the vacation, was that Governor Jennie, has received her worst approval rating EVER! Wow, are citizens starting to wake up or what??
I heard one of Jennie’s defender’s try to explain it away by offerring the following statement: ” people just don’t understand how hard it is for an incoming Governor to turn a state around, after the previous Gov. ruins the economy”.
I think that shows just how deeply some liberal Democrats, have their heads buried in the sand. Wake up you idiot! Granholm is in her second term!! She’s only following up on her own mistakes! (why can a furiner be Governor anyway??) It’s time to turn this state around and get us back in the game, Jennie just doesn’t have a clue how to do it. Raising taxes is the only solution she seems to be able to come up with.
The starting day of my vacation, I pumped $105 worth of regular gas into my truck. Gasoline was the most expensive thing I did on the vacation, and we weren’t that far from homebase. (because of gas prices) Why is it that I can’t seem to find even one politition who’s concerned about that????
And, on the subject of gasoline and boating: If you need a place to park your boat, there’s plenty of room here on Saginaw Bay. I can count the number of boats docked uptown, on one hand and the storage lot’s all look like they do on the 1st of November. Maybe that’s why there are still so many Walleye,,,, way fewer people are out fishing for them!!

The predicted severe thunderstorms never came in today, but the wind did. It was quite a blow this afternoon.
We took a ride out to the mouth of the river around 3pm to look at the waves, and got there just in time to see a couple of Jet Ski’s get rescued. It seems that the young couple had decided to take the Jet Ski’s out in the big water for a spin (the DNR officer present, said they looked like 6 foot waves!!) Anyway, they got just beyond the mouth of the river and both ran out of gas! There they were, with 4 maybe 5 ft waves, getting ready to grind them and the Jet Ski’s against the rocks. Fortunately there were a few fishermen out in the big waves and one crew had decided that it was time to come in. He radio’d for help and threw them a tow line, after a few tries, they got both Jet Ski’s attached and he towed them to saftey. The DNR showed up, but it turned out to be just for moral support. They rescue fisherman and both Jet Ski’s were well within the saftey of the river channel, by the time, the official help showed up. (I guess the luck is with the young!)
Evening has brought a calming, and it’s pretty quiet now. From what I’ve been told, the last couple of day’s should have moved the Walleye out to the clear shallow waters near Charity Island. That’s a couple of warm days with choppy water,, and the Walleye supposedly head for the clear shallows.
Fish on!
