In light of the problems I’m running into at work, I’d like to make a few things perfectly clear. (whether or not this blog has anything to do with those problems).
First off, this is my personal blog, the opinions here are my own.
This blog is hosted and maintained offsite from my place of employment.
The many items that I choose to discuss, ARE NOT INTER-RELATED.
My interest in guns and shooting sports, is separate from my interest in networking.
My rants about various things are in NO WAY connected with my shooting activities.
As a Network Administrator, I spend a fair amount of time looking into hacker sites, and hacking information. This IS connected to my job as a Network Administrator.
I am a law abiding, supporter of the constitution and and NRA member. I would never do ANYTHING to put gun ownership in a bad light.
With the above in mind, strive to separate my different posts, in your mind. They are not connected and the various subjects bear no reference to each other.
~~GB, 30 days and counting
It’s been twenty for hours since I fired my opening salvo. (email and public posting)
There has been no response, which confirms the theory that no one is allowed to open discussions with me,, and double confirms that no one is allowed to give me any kind of information at all.
This morning, half of the highschool was without connectivity. Falling back on instinct, I did the trouble shooting. (I should have played dumb)
It turned out to be a fiber optic transceiver, that had lost it’s RJ-45 port. The fiber link was up and happy, but the transceiver wouldn’t talk to it’s corresponding switch.
Luckily I had a spare transceiver from an earlier upgrade. We had the wing up by 9am.
I wonder if the new network will repair itself as quickly?

As some may know, the bean counters who pull the financial strings on my network, have decreed that Novell goes away, and will be replaced by Micromush and Active Directomy.
This is beyond my control, and I suppose it’s their right to be stupid, if that’s how they want to be. BUT, even studpid, can at least give the impression of being professional.
They have made every attempt to hide the move from me. After 10 years of 99.99 percent uptime for the servers and network, they seem to feel that my input isn’t needed.
Ok, as I said, it’s their right to be as ignorant as they want to be.
The part that urks me is the unprofessionalism displayed at every turn.
1. All planning starting back as far as two years ago, has been hidden from me.
(at least they thought it was)
2. No one from the administration building is allowed to initiate a discussion with me.
3. A dopey ex-librarian has been hired as my direct superior, someone who doesn’t understand either, Active Directory, or Edirectory.
4. I’ve been given orders to give administrative rights to outside vendors,
(who immediately logged in, added rights and made undocumented changes, which in
one case at least, caused glitches which forced me to hire a Master CNE to repair)
5. I’ve been shorted 1 weeks pay, and cheated out of about 3 weeks vacation time.
6. It’s suspected that employee’s of the outside entity, those pushing MS, have been
ordered, by our administrators, not to talk with me.
7. The “librarian” has told one of my employee’s that he is my boss, and to keep track of
my attendance and such.
8. The librarian, constantly fishes for information and tips, so she can past them off as
her own, (to her boss, who is a high school friend of hers, and who will not speak
me.)
The disrespect I’m getting for 10 years of exemplary service is distasteful and disgusting.
I’m ashamed to admit I’ve worked here for 10 years, and built them a world class network.
(which they will soon destroy).
