Burnin' some .22 ammo

It was a nice day Saturday and after all the work was done, there were still a couple of hours of daylight left to burn.
Out came the S&W K-22, and the Ruger Single Six!!
The “better half” and I burned a quick couple hundred rounds of Federal’s relatively new .22 game load.
No paper, we worked all the rounds on ringing the gongs.
Three steel plate targets, a 4×4 square at 7 yards, a standard iron chicken at 35 yards, and the standard boar, at 50 yards.
Belive it or not, the chicken takes the most concentration.

We did competitions where she had the pig and I had the chicken.
Starting with our guns at our side, one of us yelled go, and the first to hit their target was the winner. (I think I came out a couple, just a couple, of hits ahead of her).
We also played follow the leader, she would ring one, then I would ring it as quickly as possible after her, in the mean time she would be ring a different one.
Bang-clang, bang-clang, BBang-CClang, etc, etc.. Great Fun!

The Ruger with it’s 7 inch barrel and fixed sights, is a great “pointer”, but the K-12 with the oversized grips and adj. sites, is the one for presion work. I’m still working her on the double action of the K-22, she likes to thumb back the hammer, (even on her carry gun, a CA .44 Special Police BullDog). I like to bust of a cylinder double action on the pig and try to get the third or fourth bang, ahead of the second or third clang. (I wish I could do that with -my- carry gun, -Glock 36-!!

Oh well, I can’t wait for the Griffon’s slide to come back, I hope the warmer weather holds for a range test.

Hangin’ in there,

Terrorism in the USA, My considered opinion

Everyone questions whether we will see another major terrorist attack here in the US of A.
My considered opinion;
*As long as we have American’s that are willing to sell controlling interests of the USA to foriegn powers,
*As long a large minority of Americans feel the need to trash our Constitution and Bill of Rights,
*As long as American polictics are just a bickerfest between the two major parties
*As long as illegal aliens are free to enter our country at will,
*As long as the powers that be, take the opinion that criminals, terriorists, and spy’s, are protected by our constitution,
*As long as, foriegn nationals are fully protected and given even greater rights than citizens,
*As long as our Government tries to be everything to everyone,
*As long as there are laws against defending ones self and family against agression,
*As long as Terrorism is allow to masquerade as religion,
*As long as our free press, uses their freedom to mask the issues,
*Etc, Etc, I think you get the idea,,,

Yes, I’m afraid I think it’s just a matter of time.
Keep your family safe, and your defenses strong.

Disassembly and cleaning of your best friend (your gun)

I ran across this by accident this afternoon while browsing my old links.
Attrition.org does guns
There are good articles here on maintenance of the Para-Ordinace 1911, Mossberg 500, Browning Auto Rifle MKII, Beretta 92 Brigadier, Colt Anaconda, Ruger Security Six and Mark II.

Very good information, thanks to Cancer Omega at Attrition.
I would just note, that a 1911 with a solid recoil spring rod, comes apart just a tiny bit differently. (I discuss that in one of my earlier articles on the Griffon 1911)

The Seven Wonders of Scotland

The “Wonders of Scotland” is a contest in which voters get to read about and choose their favorite “wonder” of Scotland. It’s hosted by http://news.scotsman.com . You’ll likely have to create an account and login to view the pictures, articles and vote, but it’s free.

I’m personally leaning toward a vote for “CUILLIN OF SKYE”.

Griffon 1911 update 3-9-06

The Remington Golden Saber 185 gr +P ammo I ordered came in the other day. All as expected, except, the 5 boxes are not all from the same lot! Maybe I should have requested that, on my order?
Anyway, they came from 3 different lots. To work around that problem, I’ve decided to use the odd box as practice rounds to be sure the Grif is going to feed them, (along with my two boxes of old carry loads, for a total of 75 rds). Then of the 4 remaining boxes, with two different lot numbers, I’ll will give my son, two matching boxes, and keep the remaining two matched boxes for my own carry loads. I would have rather had all rounds from the same lot, but I guess this will work.

For the primary range report, we’ll be shooting the 1. Golden Sabers 2. PMC 220gr hardball, and 3. Wolf 220 gr hardball .
If the Grif feeds them all reliably and accurately, I’ll call it a go.

Still waiting for the Sight repair, spare mag., and holster. :-(
But on the bright side, the weather is looking a lot better for an outdoor shooting session!
